The Ralsko Geopark is an active member of the Network of National Geoparks of the Czech Republic, within which individual geoparks exchange experience and organize visits, seminars and conferences focused on geology. The main ideas and missions of the geoparks are summarized in the Charter of National Geoparks.
The main coordinating body of the Network of National Geoparks is the Council of National Geoparks of the Czech Republic. The Council helps implement the principles of the concept of geoparks, assists in their activities and decides on the inclusion of the candidate areas in the Network of National Geoparks.
WHAT IS A GEOPARK
The term “geopark” refers to a territory that provides a picture of the geological evolution of the Earth, showing the influence of local natural resources on both the economic and cultural development of society. It is established in a region whose geological structure enables an interesting interpretation of geological processes and is thus interpreted by the public, and where a functional infrastructure is created, consisting of local groups supporting both traditional and new geotourist activities. A geopark is established as an initiative of the local community and may be supported by expert entities at its instigation.
